Cloudy but dry weather sent the Venlas to the woods |

980 runners of the first leg rushed to the woods in an amazingly organized manner after the start shot in Kaanaa in Tampere.
Every runner tore her map from the rope looking like a clothesline. Hands could be raised but the maps were not to be touched before the starting shot made by the anti-aircraft gun at 2.00 p.m.
The Venla Relay is an event for all the family. Anna-Mari Heino, who runs in a team of Hankasalmen Hanka, was getting ready for the start, whereas her husband, Samuli Heino, also an orienteer, was planning to go to the Game Control with his two children and his mother Salme Heino. Samuli Heino will run the 2nd leg of the Jukola Relay.
- I am more nervous about my own run than my wife´s run, admits Samuli, who has the one-year-old Eelis in the backbag just about to fall asleep.
Paavo, 3 years, knows that the orienteering is for the whole family. Have you found any controls?
- Yes, two, he answers and is getting ready for the children´s orienteering at the Game Control.
